Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, yesterday urged President Mu-hammadu Buhari to uphold the tenets of democracy to justify the confidence re-posed on him by the people.
He said democracy in the country has come of age and should be sustained.
He described democracy as a beauty of life which was why President Buhari, a former military ruler can later transform into a civilian democrat.
Addressing the Save Democracy Group Africa which paid him a courtesy call at the Executive Council chamber of the Government House, Abakaliki, Umahi represented by his Deputy, Dr Kelechi Ig-we, commended President Buhari’s anti-corruption war. He called on him to en-sure democracy is not truncated.
Umahi commended the group for push-ing for the sustenance of the nation’s democracy, promising to partner with the group.
Earlier, the leader of the group and for-mer Speaker of the House of Representa-tive, Alhajia Ghali N’Abba represented by the Chairman, Budget Planning and Fund Raising for the Political National Summit being proposed by the group, Mrs Rachael Akpabio, said the organisation was formed to unite the political class and other stakeholders and build a plat-form that promotes an enduring democ-racy.
He said about 3,000 participants are ex-pected to participate in the forth-coming summit which will take place in Abuja. The group said Gov Umahi has been cho-sen by the group to represent the South-East in the summit.
He added that Umahi and Buhari will be honoured during the event for their con-tributions to the success of democracy in the country.
