Abia PDP threatens factional chair over visit to Sheriff

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, has threatened to sanction the self- acclaimed Chairman of the party in the state, Hon Chidi Nwosu and his co- travellers for their misdirected and illegal visit to the factional National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff.
Nwosu, the immediate past member representing Umuahia South state Constituency last week, laid claims to the chairmanship of the party in Abia, a claim the party has since dismissed as fake and embarrassing.
The party leadership said Abia PDP is united, intact and has no divisions whatsoever within its ranks. The party, in a resolution reached after an emergency meeting of the members of the state executive held in Umuahia, described the said visit as ‘a further display of indiscipline, gross misconduct and disloyalty of extreme order’. The Chief Johnson Onuigbo- led executive which emerged after the May 10 state congress of the party, also carpeted Nwosu and his loyalists for describing the congress as a sham.
According to the resolution signed by Onuigbo and 19 other members of his executive and PDP leaders from the three senatorial zones in the state, the congress was organised in compliance with the PDP convention guidelines. The state party leadership said Onuigbo remained the authentic Chairman of Abia PDP and pledged its allegiance to the Senator Ahmed Makarafi-led National Caretaker Committee. The party also pledged its loyalty and confidence in the state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, and enjoined members of the public to disregard Nwosu and his group of political dissidents.
