Man lands in court for beating father, police officers

A 27 years old man, Tobi Majoyegbe was yesterday arraigned in a Lagos court for beating up his father and assaulting two police officers who were invted to arrest him. He was charged alongside his friend Taiwo Taye, an estate agent.
Majoyegbe, who said he was a journalist, and his friend, Tayo are residing at 8, Gabi Crescent, Meiran, a suburb of Lagos, on the Abeokuta-Lagos Express­way, are facing a 10-count charge bordering on assault, stealing and conspiracy at an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court.
Police prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that Tobi’s parents were fighting and instead of sepa­rating them, he joined his mother to beat up his father. The offence was commit­ted on June 2 at the accused home.
“The accused’s father, Mr Victor Majoyegbe, went to the police station for his son’s arrest.
“When the policemen went to the house, Tobi and his friend, Taiwo, resisted arrest and beat up the offi­cers,” Ogu said.
Ogu said the accused also locked the door against the police officers and stole a phone valued at N45,000 and a belt worth N2,000 be­longing to them.
“The value of the sto­len items belonging to Sgt. Banji Gegeleso and W/Sgt. Obiageri Osuafor is N47,000.”
The duo, however, denied the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case to August 1 for mention.
