The headquarters of Nigeria Lorry Drivers Association (NILODA) in Anambra State has directed its members in Taraba and Benue States to quickly withdraw their services and stay off the roads in the two states over the imposition of multiple taxes on its members.
This, they said, amounts to N136,000 per lorry on daily bases. Making this known to newsmen at NILODA National Headquarters in Anambra yesterday, NILODA Acting National President, Prince Hamza Danladi, flanked by the Secretary of the union, Hon N C Okeke, said their union’s action was as a result of their inability to make the governments of the two states to see reasons why they should reduce the burdens of their colleagues. It added that they were grieved that despite several efforts to ameliorate the sufferings of their members in the affected states through petitions and appeals, no result was achieved.
While appealing on the authorities of the two states to look into their plights, the union stated that in the affected states, members were being forced to pay all manner of taxes and levies.
“In the two states, our members are molested by touts and forced to pay N136,000 per lorry load. We are grieved. We feel exploited and have directed our members to withdraw their services in the affected states until the two state governments do something about the situation”, NILODA said.
