 Rivers to support Port Harcourt golden jubilee polo tournament

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has assured that the state government will support the Port Harcourt Golden Jubilee Polo Tournament as it will positively impact on the state's economy.

Speaking on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Governor Wike noted that the tournament which will attract players from Argentina, South Africa and Dubai will place Rivers State on the international business map.

He said: "We will support this International Polo Tournament because it will afford us the opportunity to highlight the potentials of the state to the international community.

"This tournament will also project Rivers State in positive light, with international sports and business personalities seeing firsthand the peace and security that drive the growth of the state".

He added that his administration will partner with polo administrators to develop the game.

Earlier, the President of the Port Harcourt Polo Club, Mr Ibiwari Pepple said that the Golden Jubilee Tournament would hold between January 8 and January 14, 2017

He said that the tournament will enjoy wide media coverage because of its importance on the sporting calendar.

Mr Pepple said that well known players from Argentina, South Africa and Dubai will attract business concerns to the state.

While seeking the support of the Rivers State Government for the successful hosting of the event, Mr Pepple informed the governor that during the tournament, participating horses and players will be dressed in ceremonial attires to promote Rivers Stat
