Gunmen invade Onitsha relaxation centre

Gunmen allegedly numbering over twenty, operating on both vehicles and mo­torcycles, early hours of Thursday, invaded Maimi Garden, a popular drinking and entertainment joint at Omagba Phase 2, Onitsha, Anambra State.
They were said to have wounded one person and destroyed property worth over N16 mil-lion and al­legedly carted away huge sum of money during the raid.
Eye witness account said eight workers of the joint and a vigilante operative were over-powered and beaten to submission, and their phones taken away, while one of them sus-tained injury, however, the owner of the place was lucky not to be around when the invad-ing gun­men arrived.

Mr Onyeka Ezeuzor, the MD of the joint said the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday.
He said the hoodlums damaged his musical in­struments worth over N6 million, 5 plasma Tele­vision sets worth over N150,000 each, Wine Bar containing wines of as­sorted types, worth over N700,000, structures, chairs tables, cartons and bottles alcoholic beverages and broke into his office, ransacked and turned it up­side down and took away N1.8 mil-lion cash being money made from the pre­vious day’s sales.
“According to my work­ers, they were shouting at them asking for where I am, threatening since I do not want to leave here, that I will leave as a dead man, everything I have lost here is worth over N16 million,” he explained.
The Police Public Rela­tions Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra State police command, Nkiru Nwodo said the incident was not a case of armed banditry but malicious damage to some­body’s property.
