MEMBERS of Agbeyangi community in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday denied a media report that items belonging to suspected Boko Haram terrorists were found in the village.
Ina statement issued by the Alagua of Agbeyangi, Alhaji Aliyu Baba, the community said that the report was untrue, adding that the purported items belonged to some Fulani herdsmen from the North, who were awaiting screening before they could be allowed into the area.
The AUTHORITY gathered that a national daily yesterday reported that items belonging to some Boko Haram members were found in Agbeyangi
According to him, it’s a tradition in the community that herdsmen migrating into the area are subjected to screening before they are allowed in.
Baba explained that the police authorities were aware of the development and were involved in the screening of the herdsmen because of the state of insecurity in the country.
The community head added that stakeholders met on the issue, where they ordered them to leave, adding the development made the herdsmen to comply with the order.
Baba therefore urged the media to always cross-check their facts before publishing to avoid anything that could cause panic in the society.
