The leadership crisis rocking Uruebo Nkwelle-Ezunaka community in Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, has deepened as election scheduled to hold for the new executives to pilot the affairs of the community could not hold.
The Chairman of the community, Charles Obinma, on the proposed day for the election by the community had declared that the tenure of his executive has ended but was silent on the conduct of the election to replace the outgone executive.
The silence on the conduct of the election did not go down well with some stakeholders in the community which immediately sparked off protest from supporters of factional Chairman Mr Willie Oduche and the youth’s Chairman, Anthony Okafor.
Consequently the meeting ended in fiasco and the presence of Police men from Onitsha Area Command and ‘33’ police station stopped the people from going on rampage.
Oduche had protested the non-conduct of the election, noting that it would worsen move for peaceful co- existence among the people of the restive community and urged Governor Willie Obiano and influential personalities to intervene.
Sources claimed that few days after the botched meeting to conduct the election, no fewer than twenty homes were looted.
