The Nigerian Navy in support of OPERATION DELTA SAFE has carried out raid on some illegal refinery sites in continuation of the clampdown on crude oil thieves in the Niger Delta.
The patrol team deployed by NNS PATHFINDER in Rivers State on 28 December 2016 discovered and destroyed 2 barges at Taraba Jetty axis, loaded with estimated 70,000 litres of suspected illegally refined AGO while the second barge had a mixture of AGO and water.
Similarly, a patrol team from FOB ESCRAVOS carried out a raid on a newly erected illegal refining site at Asafama village near Jones Creek in Warri South West LGA of Delta State.
The naval operatives who acted on intelligence report took the criminals by surprise and destroyed the site including a large storage pit which has unspecified quantity of illegally refined AGO.
One person was arrested in connection with the site as other suspects fled the scene.
In a related development, a patrol team deployed by NNS PATHFINDER has arrested 2 barges at Taraba Jetty in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for alleged involvement in illegal oil bunkering.
One of the arrested barges had about 70,000 literes of suspected illegally refined AGO while the other was carrying a mixture of AGO and water. Additionally, the patrol team arrested another barge conveying about 200 MT of suspected illegally refined AGO at Owogoro Jetty in Port Harcourt.
A patrol teams deployed by NNS DELTA for daily patrols have discovered and destroyed 2 illegal refineries together with an estimated 120MT of products suspected to be illegally refined AGO and another 20MT of stolen crude oil at Bikpoku Creek/Asigbo Creek in Warri South LGA of Delta State.
Another patrol team from the same unit discovered and destroyed 5 illegal refineries with about 100MT of combined products at KO Creek in Warri South West LGA of Delta State, bringing to 7 the number of illegal refineries destroyed within 2 days.
