The Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF) programme which will see to the provision of free food for pupils in nursery and primary schools will soon take-off in Niger State
The focal person for the social investment scheme in the state, Hon Afiniki Dauda, disclosed this in Minna recently during a two day stakeholders meeting aimed at developing a framework for the programme.
She said the programme is targeting all the public primary schools in the state and that the raw food items would be sourced locally and prepared to meet high nutritional standard.
According to her, the need for the stakeholders meeting was also to develop a module for the programme to serve as a guide as well as help to review policy and implementation of the school feeding programme.
Hon Afiniki assured that the state will adhere strictly to the defined national guidelines and promise to collaborate with any interested individual in order to achieve success for the programme implementation.
Giving other benefit associated with the programme, the focal person disclosed that the scheme would provide employment opportunities to unemployed women who will serve as vendors that will prepare the foods for the pupils.
