For his bold entrepreneurial aptitude, notable philanthropy and positive social activism; for pursuing a vision which led to the broadening of his capacities to employ labour, inspire youths and impact society in significant dimensions, Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe is The AUTHORITY Icon.
The core of his entrepreneurial trajectory was procurement. But in the course of time after reviewing organizational strategies and astute evaluation of other options available to the company, he guided his company into the oil and gas services sector. Today, he is at the vanguard of the sector and a clearly recognised key player. Meet Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe President/CEO of Baywood Group.
He was born 58 years ago to Sir and Lady Benson Ibe, in Isu-Awa, Awgu, Enugu State. He attended Central Primary School, Isu-Awa, Colliery Comprehensive Secondary School, Ngwo. He subsequently pursued higher education in Quantity Surveying in Yugoslavia. He is also an alumnus of the prestigious Dale Carnegie Institute in Canada. He is also a member of the Petroleum Technological Association and the Global Content Group.
Baywood Continental Ltd, his brain child, was established in 1989 as a procurement company which later moved into engineering and construction. Currently, the company occupies an enviable frontline position in the oil and gas sector. According to Baywood, “Over time, as the company grew in terms of revenue and clientele, we instituted and embedded systems, processes and procedures in the company, a comprehensive overhaul that really positioned us for the leadership status Baywood Continental Ltd has achieved in our sector.”
A leader of one of Nigeria’s largest indigenous oil & gas EPC service companies - Baywood Continental Limited, he is also guiding a number of sister companies, including Baywood Exploration, Tropical Artic Logistics Ltd (TAL) and ZB Joint Ventures Limited which completed and handed over a 42X 45km onshore gas pipeline built for Total Exploration Nigeria and the first of its kind in the sub region.
Recently in Lagos, he was honoured with the Institute of Directors Nigeria (IoD Nigeria) Fellowship Award at the 2016 investiture; held at Civic Centre, Victoria Island. The award, according to IoD, was for his worthy contribution to the growth of the Nigerian economy especially in the oil and gas sector. Recently, as part of his philanthropic outreach, he presented a completely built road - the 8.5km Agbogugu Isuawaa-Ihe /Agbudu, in Agwu LGA, Enugu State.
His sweeping contributions to community are unquestionably worthy of emulation. Over the years, his medical outreach programmes to communities like Isuawaa, Agbudu, Ihe and Ugbo have saved the lives of many. His widow empowerment outreach has touched the lives of over a thousand widows todate. The Baywood football championship has positively engaged youths in Awgu and the Baywood Oil and Gas skills Acquisition programme has benefited many sons and daughters of Enugu State.
He is happily married to Empress Pat and the union is blessed with three lovely children.
