UNIZIK matriculates 7,000 students

About 7,000 students who were offered admission by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka for the 2016/2017 academic session weekend participated in the matriculation ceremony of the institution.
Addressing the students at the occasion in Awka, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Joseph Ahaneku, said his vision for the institution is to raise its visibility to be among one of the best 500 universities in the world, among the best 100 in Africa and the best in Nigeria.
He said the management is harnessing all resources, human and material, from within and outside the university in the pursuit of the actualisation of the goal.
Ahaneku revealed that the school has instituted a work-aid scheme of N10,000 to assist some indigent and physically-challenged students as well as a Group Personal Insurance Scheme covering death, permanent disability or illness of students or sponsors.
“We have linkages with 18 world renowned universities spread across the United States of America, China, Europe and Africa, as well as six local institutions. The essence of the linkages is to facilitate academic programme development, teaching/research, public service and staff/student exchange” he added.
While warning the students to shun cultism, certificate forgery and all forms of examination misconduct, the VC stressed the need for prompt payment of fees as well as attendance to lectures by the students to avert the attendant consequences.
