Ex-Governor Duke extols GO University

The former governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke, yester­day showered encomiums on the Vice-Chancellor and man­agement of the Godfrey Okoye University, for imbibing in the students basic practical busi­ness knowledge to achieve suc­cess in life.
 
Duke, while delivering the 4th convocation lecture at the university auditorium donated $10,000 for the best graduating student of the institution.
 
He described the university as “one of the most impressive private university in the coun­try”, applauding the rapport existing between the academ­ics, staff and students, which he noted created the most condu­cive atmosphere for learning.
 
Speaking on the topic “This is Your Time and Season”, Donald Duke urged students of the institution to spend time and discover the unique qual­ities and talents imbedded in every one of them that could add value to life and try hard to put such into use immediately.
 
According to the former governor, “the essence of uni­versity of education is to ac­quire the desired knowledge that will uplift the society.
 
He stressed that “our world today is a school based on eve­ry brain and untrained brain is a drain to the society”.
 
The lecturer advised the stu­dents of the university to work hard as citizens of the coun­try, stressing that opportuni­ties about, “only that we need to work hard to fish out those that can make a positive dif­ference in our lives and hu­manity”.
 
He added: “Nigeria is a vir­gin land waiting to be exploit­ed. He who dares, wins!”
 
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Christian Anieke stated that the university Governing Council and Senate are work­ing out strategies that would provide opportunities for graduating students be gain­fully employed through in­culcating practical train­ing in various trades like hair dressing, masonry, carpentry, among others, in their curric­ulum.
