The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, the first Catholic university in Enugu, Prof. Christian Anieke, has said that the institution has achieved the vision and philosophy of its founding fathers.
Anieke said that the mandate of the school is to produce graduates with sterling qualities to fit in all spheres of human endeavours, since its establishment nine years ago.
Prof. Anieke dropped the hints when he briefed news men on the week-long activities to mark the 4th convocation ceremony of the university scheduled for Saturday, within the campus of the university, located at “Thinker’s Corner’, Emene, Enugu.
He stated: “Our philosophy is based on the nature of the human person as a social being and a dialogue-seeking being. The university however understands education as an ideological process of acquisition and dissemination of knowledge.
“The vision is also to produce graduates who would be outstanding in learning, balanced in character and personality and ready to pursue epistemic unity in all its ramifications,” Anieke said.
The week-long activities to mark the convocation started last Sunday with a church service conducted at the campus auditorium. The Students’ Creativity Day was held yesterday while the event continues today with display of cultural activities and costumes.
