Governor Amobode living up to his electoral promises

Governor Amobode living up to his electoral promises

According to the Lagos State Governor, the state is technically different from other states; it is a state that sincerely runs on the tripod of infrastructure, job opportunity and security. In this piece, LAWRENCE ONWUAMA x-rays Ambode’s achievements since the inception of his administration.

Following, the 620th day of Governor Akinkunmi Ambode in office as the governor of the Centre of Excellence state, the Governor so far has lived up to expectation considering his achievements till date.
The Governor as the flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress promised Lagosians lots of goodies when he said, “I promise to operate a government of inclusion where, as your elected governor, I would have regular interactions with you to discuss the plans, programmes and progress of our administration. We can jointly improve the socio-economic well-being of our people with the ultimate goal of positioning our state on the ladder of Economic prosperity.” Governor Ambode said in his inaugural speech, on the 29th May 2015.
Within the short time he has spent as captain of the state, the Governor has ensured that the people of Lagos go about their daily activities without being accosted by men of the underworld. Due to series of complains, the Governor has consistently asked the security agencies to set up their surveillance. This has led to the arrest of hoodlums and suspected armed robbers, and also the conviction of some. He also strengthened the Rapid Response Squard (RRS), as well as establishing an integrated security and Emergency Control Platform.
Governor Ambode has also made several policy statements in line with his vision to improve on the road infrastructure in the state. His administration has undertaken the rehabilitation and maintenance of 181 roads across the state, touching every local government including federal roads. Some of these roads include Agege motor road, Herbert Macaulay Way Yaba, Murtala Mohammed Way Isolo, Ahmadu Bello Way Victoria Island, Dopemu Road, and others.
Till date, His administration has committed more than N1.386b to road construction and rehabilitation, and still promising to pump more funds in the present quarter.
Like the white man would say, “HEALTH IS WEALTH, He also ensure the creation of ambulance points across the state for easy access “The Governor was able to provide mobile intensive care unit ambulances deployed in all the ambulance points in the state.
His administration has installed power generating sets ranging from 350-500KVA as additional backups across the general hospitals at the cost of N270m to ensure 24hour power supply. Paramedics and social coordinators to ensure 24hours service in our health centers and also ensuring Lagos State will become a key destination for Medical tourism.
The saying, “CATCH THEM YOUNG” is one of Governor’s Ambode firm beliefs. The governing councils of tertiary institutions were inaugurated with prominent selfless Lagosians offering their selfless service to rescue the institutions. The recruitment of 1300 primary school teachers to fill in for key subjects areas as a mark of government’s concern about the disparity in quality between public and private school, thus Desks, Chairs and other needs have been approved for procurement.
In an effort to efficiently improve on the process of revenue generation and collection in the state and ensure proper accountability and transparency, the governor’s administration commenced the operation of a single account, in order to reduce the challenges faced with the multiple account system. For him, the operation of a Treasury Single Account aside providing transparency will also encourage tax payers to request for a single account before payment. The adoption by the Governor is also in line with the objective of the move by the President Muhammed Buhari to ensure that all the government revenue accrues to one consolidated account.
For the governor, attracting investors into the state is in line with his vision to make the state an investment hub in Africa. His decision to set up an office of Overseas Affairs and Investment (Lagos global), domiciled in his office clearly spelt out where his administration is headed.
The Governor has met several groups of Local and foreign investors, as well as envoys from several European countries and Middle East countries. Gov Ambode has stressed that his ambition is to improve on the ease of doing business in the state.
Now that the Governor has signed the 2017 budget of about N812.998b into law, describing the budget as his administration contract of inclusive governance with Lagosians and would consolidate on the modest milestones recorded so far. There is no doubt that the governor and his team are ready to hit the ground running to make the year a better one.
