In an unusual turn of events, a 57-year-old man, Chief Emmanuel Brisibe is planning to marry his daughter’s best friend, Nwankwo Jacqueline, in a traditional way next Saturday at Apo Quarters, Abuja.
It was gathered that Jacqueline, who lost both parents when she was 3 years old had no one to stop her from this marriage.
According to her, I have been living my life on charity until I met my friend’s father whom I have come to find solace in.
“My friend, Anita Brisibe should find a place in her heart to forgive me. It is not easy to be loved and find yourselves compatible with each other.”
The 28-year-old Anita however said: “I won’t be attending the traditional marriage because it would be awkward for us all. I can’t forget what happened, but I have forgiven my friend and I’m happy for her.
“The affair broke my heart and had a huge impact on me, but I’ve learnt the true meaning of the saying ‘blood is thicker than water.’ You only get one dad.
“I never thought she would hurt me like that but I had a choice: get over it or lose him. I wasn’t ready to let him go.”
Devastated, she cut the pair off and left Abuja where she grew up. But the couple remained together and will soon be married. The woman who was once her best friend will soon be her stepmother, but Anita has let her father back into her life.
“People may think I’m mad for forgiving her, but she’s my best friend and I love her. Nothing will change that. I thought it was a cheap affair, but they are in love.
“My father remarked that Jacqueline was quite beautiful, full of humility but I didn’t think anything of it because we were friends.”
Six months into the relationship, Chief Brisibe had taken over Jacqueline’s entire need.
“I told my daughter, they could spend as much time they could in my visitors section because she was attracted to me. But she was my daughter’s best friend and I never thought anything would happen. It was all pretty innocent.
“It just happened, it wasn’t something we had planned, but once we had slept together we just kind of knew it was meant to be. The question was, what and how would we tell Anita? I didn’t want to hurt her.” Chief Brisibe is adamant. He and Jacqueline had had sex once before she picked the courage to tell Anita.
Their love kept growing and soon after Jacqueline was pregnant, and the couple moved to plan for their traditional marriage.
