The Onitsha Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Wednesday impounded 16 commercial vehicles for failing to install speed limiting devices.
The Unit Commander, Mr Paulinus Akpotobo in an interview said that the exercise marked the commencement of total enforcement on speed limiting device compliance.
“FRSC nationwide has commenced the enforcement on the compliance of speed limiting device on commercial vehicles and the directive was totally adhered to in Onitsha.
“The essence is not to pursue anyone but for them to key into the Federal Government’s project of reducing fatality on highways,” Akpotobo explained.
However, the unit commander said that sensitisation exercises previously embarked upon by the Corps proved that majority of fleet operators on the corridors of the commercial city installed the device.
According to him, we have so far impounded 16 vehicles and they have been booked with a fine of N3,000 each and directed to have the speed limiting device installed through the accredited vendors.
He said that the enforcement will be a continuous exercise until the organisation records total compliance.
