The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, has commissioned a new Brigade Headquarters in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, with a further promise to establish a battalion in Nembe Local Government Area in the state.
Buratai said that Bayelsa State should be adequately secured because of its strategic location and the massive national assets and investment potential it has.
He said that the Nigerian Army had continued to enjoy massive support from the state government despite the current economic challenge and declared that the Army would reciprocate by working with other sister agencies to make the state safer.
The Chief of Army Staff who led other senior military officers to visit the governor at the Government House in Yenagoa on Tuesday commended Governor Seriake Dickson for placing security as one of his administration’s priorities and for his continuous support to security agencies as well as the provision of modern crime fighting equipment.
Burutai said that he was in the state to formerly operationalise the new 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and thanked the governor for the allocation of the temporary area for the brigade and the efforts to secure its permanent site.
