Okobo community in Ankpa Local Government of Kogi State is set on new path as a mining firm operating in the area, Eta-Zuma Group West Africa Ltd have donated N500,000,000 community development fund for transformation of the place.
It was gathered that the company’s active mine in the community currently mines about 50,000 metric tons of coal per month.
Announcing the donation, Executive Chairman of the company, Innocent Ezuma said his firm is committed to developing communities in its operational areas.
Ezuma who gave highlights of the community development activities his firm has been embarking on in Okobo, explained that the N500,000,000 community developed package will span a period of five years.
“We are interested in contributing to the growth and development of the communities in our operational areas. This is both to ensure smooth relationships, and that such communities’ stakeholders robustly benefit from the Group’s activities.
“Accordingly, I am announcing a Five Hundred Million Naira (N500,000,000) community development package for communities in our mine areas of Okobo/Enjema in Ankpa LGA of Kogi State for a period of 5 years commencing 2017.
“This amount is to be invested in developing critical infrastructure – schools, hospitals, portable water supply, and roads; entrepreneurship – loans to support small and medium-scale businesses especially those which are youth-driven (with a N20,000,000 commitment per year); sports and cultural activities as well as gender issues. Modalities for implementing this package are being discussed with communities’ stakeholders and will soon be agreed upon,” he stated.
