Mining: Kogi community gets N500m Eta-Zuma development fund

Okobo community in Ankpa Local Govern­ment of Kogi State is set on new path as a mining firm operating in the area, Eta-Zu­ma Group West Africa Ltd have donated N500,000,000 com­munity development fund for transformation of the place.

It was gathered that the com­pany’s active mine in the com­munity currently mines about 50,000 metric tons of coal per month.

Announcing the donation, Executive Chairman of the company, Innocent Ezuma said his firm is committed to devel­oping communities in its oper­ational areas.

Ezuma who gave highlights of the community development activities his firm has been em­barking on in Okobo, explained that the N500,000,000 commu­nity developed package will span a period of five years.

“We are interested in contrib­uting to the growth and devel­opment of the communities in our operational areas. This is both to ensure smooth relation­ships, and that such communi­ties’ stakeholders robustly ben­efit from the Group’s activities.

“Accordingly, I am announc­ing a Five Hundred Million Naira (N500,000,000) commu­nity development package for communities in our mine ar­eas of Okobo/Enjema in Ankpa LGA of Kogi State for a period of 5 years commencing 2017.

“This amount is to be in­vested in developing critical infrastructure – schools, hos­pitals, portable water supply, and roads; entrepreneurship – loans to support small and me­dium-scale businesses especial­ly those which are youth-driven (with a N20,000,000 commit­ment per year); sports and cul­tural activities as well as gender issues. Modalities for imple­menting this package are be­ing discussed with communi­ties’ stakeholders and will soon be agreed upon,” he stated.
