The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), yesterday commenced the preparation of Nigeria’s team for the upcoming Africa Cricket qualifiers in South Africa
14 of the 22 invited players were on hand to open the teams camp at the Cricket pitch of the National Stadium Abuja, yesterday.
Coach Oluseyi Sohunde, in reading out his riot acts yesterday urged the players to put in their best in training to enable the country raise a formidable team that can grab one out of the two African slots for the World tourney.
According to him, the biggest challenges that the team will face during the competition proper will come from the weather condition in South Africa which he said will be very cold and the pitch where they will play, saying that most of his players are not used to playing on grass.
"You can see that preparations have started in earnest as most of the invited players have reported to camp and commenced training. So far everything is intact as the federation has given us its backing.
"I have told the players that we are here for serious business, as we are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that we grab one of the two tickets for the World tournament.
"The only impediment I see on our way to securing this important ticket is the expected weather condition in South Africa when the competition starts. Though some of our players especially those that graduated from the National U 19 squad have played in South Africa, but the bulk of the players will be going there as first timers. This is where I believe that going for a training tour outside the country would have been of advantage.
