Three athletes consisting of a female and two males will represent Nigeria at the African Junior Swimming Championship, scheduled to hold in Cairo Egypt from March 28 to April 2.
This was disclosed to The AUTHORITY by the Secretary of the Nigerian Swimming Federation, Sanni Mohammed in an exclusive chat.
He said that the Federation decided to take part in the competition with three athletes owing to the present economic condition of the Nation, which has affected the Sport Federation.
"I am just coming back from the Egyptian embassy where I went to process our visas. Possibly we may be departing the Country next week to participate in the African Junior Championship in Egypt.
"We have chosen three athletes that will represent Nigeria in the event. Ordinary we would have wanted to go with more athletes, but for lack of funds, we registered only three swimmers. But the good thing is that they will participate in more games as there are many more sports attached to swimming which many people don't know."
On how the Federation scouts for players that represents the Country in International competitions, he said.
"We must not fail to appreciate the Chief of Army Staff who has consistently sponsored an annual swimming competition, as we choose our representatives from such competitions. As I am talking to you, we have sent a budget of what we will need to make this year's event successful. We are waiting for his blessings before we swing into preparation for the event billed to hold in Lagos, between April and May," he concluded.
