National Chairman of Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), Rev. Samuel Ikpea, has thrown his weight behind the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode’s plan to takeover and refurbish the long abandoned National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Ikpea said the plan is a step in the right direction. He appealed to all stakeholders to support the bold initiative of the sports-loving governor, while appealing to the Federal Government to hand over the stadium to the Lagos State Government for rehabilitation.
Ikpea further opined that the National Stadium Lagos is Nigeria’s sports capital and believes sports will record a big boost if Lagos is given the nod to maintain the edifice.
“The deplorable condition of the stadium which used to be the slaughter house of our teams against opponents is very sad. I believe it will come alive once again if it is handed over to Lagos State.
“We are grateful over the interest of the Lagos State government. It is our strong conviction that there will be plenty of sporting activities in Lagos. President Muhammadu Buhari and Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung should readily entrust it in the hands of the state,” concluded Ikpea.
