Nemesis has caught up with a suspected armed robber as he was nabbed at the weekend by the police near Yaro College, Suleja.
The AUTHORITY gathered that the policemen crack squad attached to ‘A’ Divisional Headquarters in Suleja engaged three suspected armed robbers who had raided some residents took away a huge sum of money. The arrest was made following a distress call.
The suspected armed robbers who had been terrorising residents in recent times upon sighting the armed policemen allegedly took to their heels.
One of them was apprehended while two escaped. During interrogation, the suspect, identified as Chinedu Godwin Ibe, 25, who resides in Madalla, narrated how he joined in the operation on that day.
“On Friday at 7pm, my friends Nonso and Sunday came to me, telling me that they wanted to take the law into their hands and wanted me to come along and be their watchman.
“I followed them to Yaro College second gate, where I stood at the gate to watch their back, pretending to scroll my phone so that residents would not suspect anything.
“I heard people shouting and crying. After my friends finished robbing them, they came out with bags in their hands and were running. I ran and followed them but the police caught me.
When asked of the weapons they used to rob with, he disclosed that they had three sharp knives, daggers and gun but he was only holding his phone.
The Divisional Police Officer confirmed the incident adding that he had directed that the suspect be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Minna State Police Command for further investigation and subsequent prosecution. He vowed to track down the fleeing two suspects and assured residents of adequate protection of lives and property.
