Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, yesterday said in Abuja that no Nigerian with full valid entry visas was denied entry into the U.S., contrary widely spread reports.
Onyeama, who stated this while fielding questions from newsmen over the issue, also said that no Nigerian life was lost at the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The Minister said he was constantly in touch with the Nigerian Ambassador in the US and the US Ambassador in Nigeria and there was no report to that effect.
“On the issue of Nigerians being turned back from the US, this is not the case. I am in touch with the US Embassy and the Ambassador said there was nothing of such”.
“I can tell you to ignore any call on the advice to reconsider travelling to the US because there is no basis for that. We have absolutely no report whatsoever from the US that people are being turned back or any of our consulate or any Nigerian that any of our people are turned back,” he said.
According to him, if government is speaking on any external relations, you will hear it from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Presidency. Any other source is not from the government.
