Akwa United FC of Uyo has announced the sacking of four players from its camp as the first stanza of the NPFL ends, to open the rush for new players in the transfer market.
The management noted that the players were released into the transfer market for reasons ranging from acts of indiscipline to lack of productivity.
Top on the list is long standing goalkeeper, Olufemi Kayode, who of late has failed to hold on to a first team place in the team.
Also shown the door are defenders; Ibukun Harrison, Semui Liadi and Shittu Lawal.
Two players Nura Usman and Michael Ibe have been placed on probation and told to sit up or face the axe as the club positions itself for a challenge at the league diadem at the end of the season.
Top midfielder Adio Yusuf who has been plagued with injury has been sidelined for the rest of the season.
Adio has been put on medical leave of absence on compassionate ground. In a related development, the club has revealed that it is targeting five new signings to replace those that have left.
A statement issued by the club at the end of the first round said some of the players on the club’s radar include Christopher Lolo of Katsina United and Akwa Starlets striker Edem Akanatang.
