Determined to boost the level of girl-child education in Benue State, wife of the state governor, Mrs. Eunice Ortom, is to purchase and present registration pins (forms) of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to female students of Benue extraction.
Mrs Ortom said the move underscores her commitment to ensure that the widening literacy gap in state is bridged as well as her quest to uplift women, particularly the girl-child, who she said needs more attention to secure the future of the world.
This was contained in a press statement signed by her Senior Special Assistant on Administration and Information Communication Technology (ICT), Mr. Daniel Gbabo, and made available to The AUTHORITY in Makurdi.
She noted that the gesture is equally aimed at promoting and encouraging girl-child education as against cultural and traditional practices that put female children in early family way.
According to the statement, the governor’s wife said that the goodwill is a product of her pet project, the Eunice Spring of Life Foundation (ESLF), adding that emphasis and priority will be given to those with science background.
The founder of ESLF explained that the idea of giving more to those with science background was in line with the working document of the present administration’s “Our Collective Vision For a New Benue”.
She, however, warned against sharp practices and urged girls to conduct themselves in dignified manners.
