FG inaugurates committee on continental trade negotiation

The Federal Government has inaugurated the National Committee for the Conti­nental Free Trade Area (CFTA) negotiations.
Inaugurating the committee in Abuja on Thursday, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, said the team, would among other re­sponsibilities, advise government on areas of negotiation on goods, investment, competition and intel­lectual property.
While also saying that the com­mittee would also undertake anal­ysis to ensure that the negotiations and emerging results approximate the goals set by the government, Enelamah said the Nigerian Eco­nomic Summit Group (NESG) would henceforth be part of the Nigerian negotiating team for the CFTA.
He said the trade negotiat­ing committee would also iden­tify opportunities and challenges facing the country in trade with other African countries, both in­tra and Inter-Regional Economic Communities (REC), and partic­ipate in the negotiations, as appro­priate to modernize the Nigerian economy.
Members of the committee are drawn from Ministry of Indus­try, Trade and Investment; Office of the Vice President; Ministry of Budget and National Planning; Ministry of Justice; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Fi­nance; Nigeria Customs Service, among others.
