Gunmen kill Civil Defence officer in Ekiti

An officer of the Ni­geria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State, Sunday Afolabi, has been shot dead by unknown gun­men in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

An insider in Ekiti Com­mand of NSCDC who craved anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter alleged that Afolabi was killed by his assailants along Afao Road at about 3:30pm on Wednesday. But the state police command said Afo­labi was killed by suspected “cult boys.” His body was deposited at the mortuary by some policemen who visited the scene after the killing.

NSCDC spokesman, Tolu Afolabi confirmed the killing to reporters yester­day. He said investigation has been launched into the incident in a bid to unmask the killers of the officer.

The late Afolabi, who served in the Intelligence and Investigation Unit of Ekiti NSCDC was report­edly shot in the heart.
