Immigration CG tasks officers on application of NIS legal framework

As part of efforts to ensure effective op­eration and regula­tory practices in line with international best stan­dards, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Im­migration Service (NIS), Muhammad Babandede, has tasked senior officers of the Service to expose themselves to the provi­sions of Immigration Act 2015 and the new Immi­gration Regulations 2017, to enable them effectively apply the legal framework in line with the rule of law and in accordance with the current change agenda.
Babandede made the call over the weekend in Abuja during a training exercise for its senior officers on NIS legal framework aimed at exposing officers to the Immigration Act 2015 and the newly launched Im­migration Regulation 2017 by the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen (rtd) Abdulrahman Dambazau.
The training which was impacted to the senior of­ficers by Prof D Odeleye, the Legal Adviser in the Ministry of Interior, Bola Odugbesan and Amos Si­las is aimed at tutoring the officers on how to combat cases relating to transna­tional cross-border crimes, effectively regulate im­migrants into the country, reposition the Service to achieve IT-driven entity that will conveniently ad­dress operational challeng­es of modern global migra­tion trends.
