The Minority Leader of Anambra State House of Assembly, Onyebuchi Offor, has provided uniforms for 42 community vigilantes and task force groups in Oraifite community.
The lawmaker who is representing Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state, disclosed that the gesture is aimed at encouraging the security operatives in the community.
He said that the need to empower the security personnel was imperative because, according to him, they are the closest to the people at the grassroot.
Offor noted that investments into other sectors may not yield the expected dividends if effective security network was not in place.
“This is a period of constant threat by Fulani herdsmen and other security challenges, we must contribute our quota toward empowering our community vigilante so that they can be proactive in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities,” h e explained.
The lawmaker who said he made the promise to equip the vigilante operators during the last Yuletide also gave each member of the two groups an unspecified amount of money.
The lawmaker further reassured the vigilante and the task force groups that he would continue to support them. He, however, cautioned them against any act impunity.
The leaders of the two groups, Amobi Onukwube and Christopher Okwuoha, applauded the lawmaker for the support. They reassured their community that they would continue to be at their best to ward off criminal elements from the community.
Speaking, the President General of Oraifite Improvement Union, Dr Godson Okeke, commended the Minority Leader for the gesture.
