The National Youth Service Corps has charged all state governments to play their own roles in sustaining the progress of the scheme by being responsive to their statutory obligations towards the scheme.
The corps called on the state to protect the facilities to be used by corps members, stressing that the provision and maintenance of camp facilities are the responsibilities of state governments.
The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure, made the call at the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Orientation Workshop in Bauchi, with the theme: “Evolving strategies to meet the challenge of increasing corps population.”
He noted that each orientation exercise has its unique challenges due to societal changes and emerging trends. He added that the growth of the scheme from its annual output of 2,364 graduates in 1973 to the current figure of over 300,000 per year is the biggest development in the history of the scheme.
