Police arrest wanted Boko Haram leader in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has an­nounced the arrest of one of the notorious mem­bers of the Boko Haram militants who were declared wanted by the security agen­cies in the country.
Commissioner of Police, Garba Baba Umar, who dis­closed this to journalists on Thursday in Bauchi while parading suspected criminals apprehended by his person­nel in various operations, explained that the suspect was nabbed on 12th April this month at Tama village in Toro Local Government Area of the state, following intelligence report.
He said the suspected ter­rorist, known as Muhammad Adamu Nafiu, aged 25, was the 176th on the list of want­ed Boko Haram members as declared by the Nigerian Army.
The CP further stated that Nafiu was an indigene of Bal­anga town in Gombe State and had fled from Sambisa Forest in order to avoid arrest after they were dislodged by the military officers.
“Meanwhile, he has volun­tarily confessed to have killed over 150 people in Baga Lo­cal Government Area of Bor­no State.
The case is under investi­gation after which the sus­pect would be handed over to the appropriate authori­ties for discreet investigation please,” he said.
In a similar development, the police boss also stated that his command has ar­rested a notorious Sara-Suka thug, named as one Osama Abubakar male, aged 20 years of Malam Goje Street of Bauchi.
The suspect allegedly used a sharp knife to cut off the left hand of one Abdul-Aziz Mo­hammed, male, aged 23yrs of Gombe Road Bauchi who is also alleged to be a Sara-Suka member.
Exhibits recovered include two sharp knives used in per­petrating the act.
“Preliminary investiga­tions revealed that the sus­pect is a notorious Sara-Suka thug who was convicted for a similar offence in 2016; the suspect voluntarily confessed and is assisting the police with useful information that will assist in apprehending his accomplices”, he said.
The command also ar­rested one Suleiman Umar male, aged 19 who was also accused of using a sharp knife to inflict deep cut on the right hand of one Salisu Harisu Hussaini male, aged 25 of Gwabba ward in Bauchi State capital.
Exhibit recovered, accord­ing to the CP, include one blood-stained knife in his possession.
“Similarly, on the 9th of April, 2017 at about 11am, police detectives attached to Yelwa Division arrested the suspected cultists at Yelwa area in the state capi­tal namely, Ibrahim Ahmed male, aged 18yrs of Birshi Village Yelwa, Usman Yu­nusa male, aged 15yrs of the same address, Emmanuel Ayuba male, aged 22yrs of Yelwan Tsakani.
Exhibits recovered in­clude: One sharp knife and one white regalia with in­scription ‘Young Money’ suspected to be used by cult­ists,” he stated.
All Case are under in­vestigation So far the com­mand has arrested over 200 suspected thugs and recov­ered offensive weapons and charged them to Court for prosecutions.
