For his disciplined professionalism and being one of the best movie role interpreters in Nollywood, a dimension that helped him hugely in the development of the industry; for being one of Nollywood’s early starters who provided the competitive, inspirational spark that lighted up moviedom in Nigeria, Ejike Asiegbu is The AUTHORITY Icon.
He has paid his dues so far in the Nigerian entertainment industry, hugely impacting that unique sector both as actor and director. With a thriving career spanning over two decades, the University of Port-Harcourt, Theatre Arts graduate has traversed television and stage productions before berthing in Nollywood’s big screen. He was born in Makurdi, Benue State and hails from Umuahia North LGA of Abia State. He had his primary school education in Eastern Nigeria before the civil war. In his words: “I’m from a family of six; two boys and four girls; one of them is late. As the son of a civil servant, we kept moving round the federation on transfers. I’m a Theatre Arts graduate and I majored in directing and trained under the late Prof. Ola Rotimi. I also played football to the division level in Enugu before my dad stopped me. Also, most people did not know I featured in the television production of Things Fall Apart then.”
The veteran, hugely talented actor was once National President of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN). He was also one Personal Assistant to Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, during the 1994 National Constitutional Conference in Abuja. According to him, his motivation and drive come from God - “Yes, they come from God, I believe in Him so much.”
He has acted in Gossip Nation (2012),The Wrong Money (2008), Silent Whispers (2007), Be My Val, Last Kiss, Leap of Faith, Power Must Change Hands (Director), Taking Chances, The Preacher, The Wolves (Director)(2006) and in about over thirty films.
He is married to his heart-throb lovely Ogechi, in a union blessed with three beautiful children - a daughter and twin boys.
