UNIABUJA SSANU gets interim leaders

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Abuja chapter, has put in place an interim management com­mittee to pilot the affairs of the association.
The interim committee, which is headed by Mr. Hassan Shal­langwa is saddled with the re­sponsibilities of resuscitating the activities of the ailing association and to fill the leadership vacuum created by the recent termination of the appointments of the erst­while chairman and the secretary of the union.
Speaking at an emergency congress, held at the mini cam­pus of the University, the Coordi­nator of the event, Mr Ale Okpe, said the congress was called in other to give the association a new sense of direction and en­sure that the welfare and interests of members are no longer taken for granted.
His words: “Since 2014, our as­sociation has lost focus, and have been wobbling and fumbling, and bogged by individualized ambition, whose past times in­cludes engaging the management of the university on frivolous al­legations. SSANU under the for­mer leadership was embroiled in writing petitions, and were no longer keepers of our welfare, but running a highly selfish and indi­vidualized association.’’
The Interim committee, which has three months to put the as­sociation on a sound footing is to also call for fresh elections, recover the union’s assets, relate with the university management and the national body of the union, supervise the collection and control of check off dues, among others.
Other members of the interim committee include, Buka Hami­du as Vice Chairman; Kunbrat Jubrin asTreasurer;Williams Pe­ter as Publicity Secreary and Joel Eya as Secretary General.
