Arrangements have been concluded by the Faculty of Social Science of the Ahmadu Bello University(ABU), Zaria, to honour women who have excelled in their chosen works.
The dean of the faculty, Prof. Paul Pindar Izah, said women in professions such as security, defence, law enforcement, judiciary, among others, would be honoured during a conference slated for June 7, 2017,
According to a statement made available to newsmen by the dean, the conference is being organised in collaboration with the International Institute for Security and Governance Studies.
He noted that despite the massive contributions of women in various professions, they are hardly identified and celebrated.
While listing the major objectives of the maiden conference to include celebrating hard work, diligence, bravery, patriotism and nation building as demonstrated by the female gender, Prof. Izah said it would also bring to the fore great role models.
He said, ‘it will additionally help us showcase authentic female role models for our young girls, authentic role models abounds in Nigeria, but they need to be identified, recognized and celebrated”.
“it is high time Nigeria give women their rightful place, because any country that relegates 50 per cent of its population is doomed, education of the girl child is paramount, especially in the North.”
On his part, Dr David Okoror of the International Institute of Security and Governance studies (IISGS) , who doubles as the director, conference and awards said “the honor awards principally would be for women and organisations in the following sectors of security, defence, law enforcement and judiciary.”
