FCTA faults delay in report on N9.9m LEAs' salaries misappropriation

As area councils unions continue to kick against alleged salaries scam by some chairmen in connivance with LEA Secretaries, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said the view that it was delaying the audit report of the six area councils Local Education Authorities, LEAs, was not correct.
The Director, Administration and Finance, and Acting Secretary of Area Council Service Secretariat (ACSS), of FCTA, Hajiya Amina Abubakar said the audit report was being carefully studied.
Hajiya Abubakar, who heads the local audit committee of LEAs’ salaries in FCT area councils, set up in 2016 said the team was working in line with the agenda of the present administration, and said needed more time to come up with a better result.
The audit committee was constituted by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye, in consonance with the FCT Minister, Muhammad Bello to examine the true state of affairs at LEAs Secretariat of the six area councils.
On the exact amount being soaked by LEAs monthly, she said the figure won’t be certain as the exercise was still in progress.
The AUTHORITY recalls that there are mixed feelings among the staff of area councils on how about 4-5 years, LEAs staff salaries which stood at N9.9 million and has not reduced in spite of the fact that some staff have retired and some died without replacement recruitments taking place.
