Speaking in Abuja at the 8th Korea Image Drawing Competition 2017, the Director of the Korean Cultural Centre, Han Sungrae, said the competition provides children the opportunity to understand more of their history and culture as well as those of other countries.
He noted that the program was initiated in 2010 to help improve the drawing skills of children in both Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in FCT, adding “Drawing could have many positive effects on children including fostering creativity and inventiveness among them.”
Sungrae commended the students and their teachers for their active participation.
“I thank FCT UBEB for working with us since 2010 when this competition was initiated. I thank all the teachers and students who have participated and especially the winners of this year’s edition,” he said.
“The theme of this year’s edition is PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics. As the children have learnt already, Korea will be hosting this major multi-sport event scheduled to take place from 9-25 February 2018. This Olympic Winter Games will be held in Korea for the first time in 30 years after the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988. PyeongChang will be the stage for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and most snow sports,” he added.
