Police faults video of suspected cultist being dragged by police vehicle

The authorities of the Nigeria Police Force have picked holes in the video recently being circulated in the social media insinuating that a suspected cultist was tied to, and was being dragged by a moving police patrol van in Edo State.

In a statement by the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU), the unit saddled with the responsibility to investigate and sanction erring police officers, disclosed that the video being circulated does not have a frame that indicated that anyone was being dragged by a police patrol vehicle as insinuated.

The head of the PCRRU, ACP Abayomi Shogunle, explained that the suspect seen on the ground was trying to escaped.

He noted that preliminary investigation revealed after the arrest of the suspects, the police picked them in the patrol van, “in the process one of the suspects (one seen in the video) tried to escape by jumping off the back of the open pick-up patrol van but was restrained by the handcuff attaching him to the vehicle. A reinforcement was called and the suspects were eventually taken to the station.”

However, many Nigerians resident in Abuja who confirmed watching the video in an interview with The AUTHORITY insisted that the vehicle was in motion.
