The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria, (EHORECON), Dr. Dominic Abonyi has solicited the support of The AUTHORITY Newspapers in reaching out to the grassroots on the importance of a safe and healthy environment.
Abonyi made the call when he led a high-powered team of his agency to the headquarters of The AUTHORITY Newspapers in Abuja.
The Registrar stressed the need for the media to inform the populace to maintain a healthy environmental lifestyle.
He informed the host that EHORECON was established by the ACT 11 of 2002 to address challenges of environmental health practices in the country.
He also said the Federal Ministry of Environment, in 2016 opened environmental health practice to private participation.
Abonyi disclosed that EHORECON is saddled with setting the standard of knowledge and skill for people seeking to become members of the profession in Nigeria and regulate institutions.
He further disclosed that with the coordinating role of EHORECON, some tertiary institutions in the country, including the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, University of Ibadan, Bayero University, Kano, etc have become training ground for environmental health practitioners.
The visitors where received by the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The AUTHORITY Newspapers, Mr. Madu Onuorah, the Chairman, Editorial Board, Chief Uche Ezechukwu, Executive Director, South-East, Chief Joe Nwankwo and other members of management.
Mr. Onuorah pledged support for the activities of EHORECON, promising to offer the agency a platform to achieve their goal.
