The President of the Miners Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Sani Shehu, has been appointed as Vice Chairman of the ECOWAS Federation of Chamber of Mines (EFEDCOM) at its First General Assembly held in Abuja.
The seven countries represented at the meeting, which was hosted by Nigeria, included Ghana, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire and Mali.
Shehu in his acceptance speech said that Nigeria has been an active participant in the formation and gradual development of EFEDCOM from its inception and as such, the role he is given to play will be of relevance to the assembly, Nigeria and the future of mining in Africa.
Shehu said that the meeting would avail countries represented at the meeting to deliberate and to take far-reaching decisions that were germane to their economies.
“Collaboration can be achieved by coming up with a mechanism for the articulation of the concerns, challenges, observations and solutions coming out from member nations and channeling same to higher authorities for consideration”, he said.
