The Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr Osita Okechukwu, has called on the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to unite with other students groups to monitor budgets of public higher education institutions so as to keep relevant authorities in check.
Okechukwu, who made this known in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the organisation by the leadership of NANS, said some fundamental changes introduced into the nation’s education system by the present administration are already yielding fruits.
He said the policies contained in President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda on education and unemployment were designed to ensure that those educated are well trained to be providers of employment, adding that the position of Nigerian students cannot be wished away .
Okechukwu, who also called for a united country, said unity of Nigeria will re-position the country to be among the strongest nations of the World.
“If Nigeria continues to unite, the country will be among the strongest countries of the world just like America and China.
“Let our hunger not over shadow our reasoning, let nobody deceive the youths, the idea of advancement has been there,” he said.
On his part, the Vice President of NANS, Comrade Odebunmi Idowu, who represented the President, Comrade Chinonso Obasi, said Nigeria students believe in the anti-graft campaign of the present administration to salvage the future of Nigerian students .
She expressed the readiness of the association to expose any corrupt activity in the nation’s tertiary education institutions.
