Ahead of November 18 Anambra State governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has screened seven aspirants to contest for its primary holding on August 19, 2017.
The aspirants include the Publisher of The AUTHORITY Newspapers, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah; former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah; former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Oseloka Obaze; Dr. Alex Obiogolu, Prince John Emeka, Akolisa Ufodike, and Hon. Lynda Ikpeazu.
Their screening followed payment for the party’s Expression of Interest forms. All the aspirants were present for the exercise at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.
Shortly before the screening started on Thursday in Abuja, the Chairman of the PDP Screening Committee, Alhaji Adamu Waziri, said that not only would the panel do a thorough job, but the party would present a candidate that has the capacity to win the election.
He stated that, “every one of us has something to lose if we lose the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.”
Addressing newsmen after his screening, Obaze (aspirant) said that he is the most qualified to fly the party’s flag, adding that, “there are six other aspirants but in terms of experience and capability, I think I am the best.”
Asked if there was any petition against him, Obaze said that there was one that has to do with an interview he granted, but he had clarified the issue.
Reacting to the Ozubulu Church massacre, the aspirant described it as dehumanising and urged the security agencies to get to unmask the perpetrators.
He said: “What they have done is to scare people from going to the church. Let the government get to the root of the matter and prosecute the people who carried out the attack.”
The other aspirants however did not speak to the press before leaving the premises.
