The Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Michael Adeyemo, has appealed to road users to be safety-conscious, saying life and human parts are neither replaceable nor available in the market.
At the plenary he presided over on Tuesday, Hon Adeyemo urged commercial drivers and other road users to observe the road-worthiness of their vehicles before embarking on a journey.
He said: “Life is not replaceable. No part of the body is replaceable. If a part of the body is replaced, it would be artificial. All road users must ensure the safety of lives and property.”
The Speaker was speaking against the backdrop of a motion moved by Hon Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, the lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North in the Assembly.
In the motion titled: ‘Need for the Establishment of Oyo State Accident Rescue Management Unit’, Mrs Oladeji, said that victims of emergency situations such as motor accident required first aid treatment and urgent attention in order to prevent complications.
In his contribution, Hon Gbenga Oyekola from Atiba State constituency, emphasised the need to appeal to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to educate its members in order to prevent avoidable accidents.
The Majority Leader, Hon Kehinde Subair, canvassed the state government’s collaborate with agencies such as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The House thereafter resolved to urge the Ministry of Health to work with House Committee on Health to establish Oyo State Accident Rescue Management Unit.
