English Premier League side, Stoke City have sacked manager, Mark Hughes following the teama��s FA Cup defeat at the hands of Coventry City.
Stoke suffered a shocking 2-1 FA Cup defeat to League Two Coventry on Saturday, January 6, to crash out of the FA Cup in the third round, prompting the cluba��s board to part company with their manager of four-and-a-half years.
The defeat proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the 54-year-old Hughes who recorded only one win in his past seven (7) games.
A club statement read: a�?Stoke City can confirm that the contract of manager Mark Hughes has been terminated with immediate effect.
a�?We would like to thank Mark for all he has achieved for the Club over the last four and a half years, notably in guiding us to three successive ninth places finishes in the Premier League, and we wish him every success for the future.
a�?The Club will look to appoint a new manager as soon as possible and will be making no further comment at this timea�?, the statement added.
Meanwhile, Hughes leaves with the club in the Premier League relegation zone as sit in 18th place and are only goal difference away from safety.
