The Anambra Election Tribunal sitting in Awka has assured free hearing for all the interested parties in the petitions before it.
Justice H.A. Olusiyi, chairman of the tribunal gave the position of the tribunal while speaking to newsmen.
Olusiyi said the tribunal had so far received four petitions including three for governorship election and one in respect of Anambra Central Senatorial rerun election.
The chairman who spoke alongside Justice A.O Ayoola, member of the tribunal said all petitions filed had been responded to and were awaiting the appropriate steps by the litigants for further actions.
He said it was not true that tribunal was tardy on cases and may not be able to dispense of the matters before the duration of the tribunal, noting that it has one hundred and eighty days from the day a petition was filed.
Olusiyi however expressed disappointment over the petition written against the tribunal by the candidate of African Democratic Congress(ADC) in the last Anambra State governorship election, noting that the petition was hasty and misleading.
“The appointing authorities have confidence in us and that is why they sent us here, what we are assuring is that there will be fair hearing for all parties,” he said.
Obianaso, the ADC candidate in the November 2017 election had allegedly petitioned Court of Appeal that the election tribunal was slow in handling his petition and was not sitting too often to enable is dispense the matter expeditiously.
