Farmers/herders clash: IGP reinforces personnel, material to Benue

February 28th, 2018

In a desperate move to end, once and for all, the farmers/herdsmen clashes in Benue State, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has reinforce both personnel and material resources to aid the operation of the Benue State Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of Benue State, Fatai Owoseni, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.
He, however, debunked the claim in a section of the media that the IGP has withdrawn the special forces at the theatre of operation in Benue State.
According to him: a?The Benue State Police Command wishes to inform the general public, especially the good people of Benue State that it is not true that the Special Forces of the Nigeria Police has been withdrawn from the theatre of operation in Benue State.

a?Rather, the IGP has continued to reinforce the Command with personnel and material resources as it becomes operationally expedient. With the reinforcement, the Command has been able to increase its visibility in the State. This is aimed at encouraging speedy return of displaced persons to their respective communities.
a?While the situation is relatively calm, the Police will continue to partner with well- meaning members of the society and Sister Security Agencies to ensure security of life and property.a?
