Sixty-five people have been charged to court in connection with the recent violence and mayhem which took place in Kasuwa Magani,A�Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. A�A�
It would be recalled that violence broke out between Muslim and Christian youths over a Christian girl that was allegedly converted to Islam.A�
The crisis which lasted several hours before the arrival of security operatives witnessed destruction of over 1,000 shops and houses including worshiping houses, while 12 people were reportedly killed.
Addressing a press conference in KadunaA�on Tuesday, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Mr Chris Umar announced that 65 suspects were arrested as a result of the incident.A�
He explained that after the completion of investigation, the culprits were charged before the Chief Magistrate Court 6 Daura road, Kaduna.A�
He said those arrested were a�?charged with offences of criminal conspiracy, rioting with armed and offensive weapons, culpable homicide punishable with death, unlawful assembly and inciting, contrary to section 59 and 78 of the penal code of Kaduna State law 2017a�?.
Umar, remarked that the case had been mentioned in court and adjourned to theA�15th, March, 2018A�to enable police conclude their investigations while the 65 suspects were ordered to be remanded in prison custody with the exception of one Theophilous Saidu who is an underage person. A�
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State government has warned against using religion to cause division among the people
Addressing a press conferenceA�on Tuesday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Samuel Aruwan alerted that the state government is on top of the situation, stressing that government will continue to protect the lives and property of its citizenry.A�
Aruwan remarked that situation is calm and normalcy had returned to the troubled area.
