Abia govt commences measles vaccination campaign

Abia State has announced that a two- week measles vaccination exercise would be conducted in all the communities across the state.
The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care, Dr. Chinagozi Adindu who disclosed this at a media briefing in Umuahia, said the exercise would be flagged off by the governor’s wife at Itumba Community Primary School Obingwa and run from March 8 to 20 simultaneously across the state.
Shedding more light on the exercise, the State Health Educator, Mrs. Meg Onwu, said the exercise which is co- sponsored by UNICEF, WHO and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) would be health facility based ” and not the usual house – to- house campaign”.

She explained that health experts would be deployed to health centres in all the communities where parents and guardians would present their children and wards between nine months and five years for vaccination.
