Army beefs up security in 6 troubled states

Nigerian Army has said that despite the success recorded in fighting terrorism, “there is need to beef up security to combat any form of criminality in the country.
Brigadier General Jimmy Akpor retorted yesterday in a chat with newsmen during a military exercise tagged “Exercise Ayem Akpatuma (CAT-RACE)” in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He explained that the training exercise is to ensure that the Nigerian Army are more sophisticated to checkmating the activities of criminal elements in the society.
According to him, this is to ensure that the society is safe for everybody at any given time, especially in the area of the activities of kidnappers, cattle rustling, armed bandits and terrorism.
“The military in Birnin-Gwari axis have done very well in the areas mentioned”, he thumbed up his officers and men and said “this exercise embarked on was to prepare us for any such eventuality”.
“As I speak to you now, this exercise is taking place in six states of the federation”, he disclosed and named the states to include Taraba, Benue, Niger, Kaduna, Nassarawa and Kogi States.
During the exercise, over 2,000 residents of Kamugu and other neighbouring communities of Birni-Gwari benefitted from free medical services rendered by the Headquarters, 1 Mechanized Infantry Division.
Lt-Col Godwin Ogoh who led the medical team explained that “the gesture is to ensure that our people are sound and healthy”, stressing, “as military, we are also part of the society.”
The treatment given included eye treatment, deworming of children, Blood Pressure test, dental and malaria as well as typhoid treatment.
