The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has by intercepted contrabands worth N92.778million.
Briefing journalists on Tuesday at the Command Area Headquarters in Ibadan, the Area Comptroller, Mr. Christopher Odibu, said that the seizures were made through the utilisation of the intelligence reports by the men and officers of the agency.
The seized items and their duty paid value are 4,000 (50kg) bags of foreign parboiled rice worth N48.596million; nine trucks and two used cars worth N34.782million; 150 pieces of used tyres valued at N1.298million bales of second-hand clothes at N7.043million and 50 (25-litre keg) of vegetable oil valued at N1.057million.
Odibu said that the seizures were made at locations within the command, especially along the Opara/Bodo Musa axis of Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State.
One suspect was arrested along with the seized goods.
The NCS chief described as worrisome some Nigerians’ unrepentant involvement in the illicit trade.
